The curved sculptural shape helped the acoustics for the music performance room, and the soft organic form integrates well with the garden below. The existing house utilized a portion of the roof of the music room for a deck overlooking the city and mountain views of Mt. washington.
A master bedroom was also remodeled and extended for this residence as later project.
This 11 unit apartment building in Silver Lake is situated on a narrow urban lot.
The units are townhome style designed to maximize volume, light and air. The multi-colored vertical siding & smooth stucco create a playful mix of textures.
The roof was shaped & oriented to accommodate solar panels.
This steep upslope property originally had a very small craftsman style home situated many steps up from the street.
The architectural program was to add a garage and guest house at the street level and extend the existing residence perched on the upper portion of the property. The craftsman style was maintained for the addition and the garage structure, complimenting the original architectural style of the residence.
This project was a complete reconstruction of the original structure only retaining the garage area & a portion of the basement/lowest level. A sweeping shape was utilized to maximize the panoramic views from the main living level of the residence.
Also the architectural program included a second story addition & a large roof deck to utilize the spectacular views from this residence. The fiber cement panels, smooth stucco and vertical metal siding creates a distinctive palette of colors and textures complimenting each of the massing elements of the residence.
This residence had some issues with settlement . A series of rooms were added to stabilize the residence and add space and fun design elements to the existing ranch style house.
